Re-read (23/09/2019) - Just as awesome the second time around!

A thoroughly enjoyable addition to a series that seems to get better with each book.
Very complex, multilayered world that manages to remain realistic, despite the various supernatural creatures and nasty creepy-crawlies inhabiting it.
This time the trouble begins with Adam's ex wife, who is coming to stay with them so the pack can help her with her stalker. The fae add their bit when one of the G ...more

Okay, Christy is the worst. Can we get that out there? I haven't found a character so frustrating and easy to hate since Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. Umbridge, right? Ugh.
I feel like these last few books are really building up the mythology in a way that reminds me of Kevin Hearne's Iron Druid books. I like it, but it's different. I feel like the battles aren't quite as exciting. Juan Flores didn't do much for me, and nothing was really resolved with Christy either which was very ...more

Mercy's place in the pack challenged
AH - I think that my favorite part of this book was how Mercy established her place as the pack Alpha’s Alpha wife (for lack of better terms), even though Adam's ex-wife Christy was manipulating all of the pack members. I loved how Mercy did this, never having to stoop to Christy’s level even though it was tempting.
D.G. - I liked that as well but I thought Mercy was too patient. Could ...more

I like Patricia Brigg's take on werewolves and such. This book was another great addition to the series. I'm glad I kept reading after the one in which the heroine was raped. That was pissed me off. Not that she'd done such a horrid thing to her heroine but that neither the publisher nor the author felt the need to warn readers.
I'm glad to see Coyote make a reappearance, and Mercy discovering a half-brother. I listened to the audio version of this book that I checked out at the library. I'll def ...more

I. Love. This. Series.
Mercy continues to be one of my favorite characters. She's strong, level-headed, insightful...and she's also capable of kicking ass. She feels incredibly real, and that alone would keep me faithful to this series.
Add in the fact that Briggs has a marvelous talent for thinking up unique and captivating situations to throw at our girl, and how could I ever resist these books?

. Fantastic story with mythical volcano god, Coyote and Adam Hauptman's ex-wife, Christy. (view spoiler)

This one didn't grip me as much as the previous book, maybe because the idea of Guayota seemed too... out there. Also, I didn't like the way Mercy handled Christy - Mercy always held back because Christy was Juan Flores' victim but that didn't change the fact that she was a major bitch and I didn't like that Mercy allowed her to run rampant in her home, family and pack. She should've told her off more sternly. I was disappointed in Mercy this time around.
