I feel I should have so much to say about Hunger because it is such a powerful read. Instead I'm left completely blown away and nearly speechless at this terribly short, yet incredibly intense novel. Kessler has managed to take eating disorders and weave a fiercely unrelenting story without being the tiniest bit preachy on the subject. She doesn't shirk away from the pure physicality or raw emotion and presents Lisa's suffering in a tangible and gripping way.

I hate to give this a bad rating when my problem is mainly that I'm just not the intended audience, but maybe I should warn others that could be reading the book for the wrong reasons. I realize it is a message book and is about an important subject. I hope it does help teens that may need the message.

This book was simply amazing. The description of anorexia was amazingly thorough and believable, and the character's despair rang out through the pages. It made it slightly hard to read, in a too-raw-and-too-close kind away, but the author seemed to know when to twist the knife and when to give the reader a break. I loved the growth of the lead character, her learning curve about how to use bad powers for good, and the conclusion. The promise of another book in the series is icing on the cake.

Terrific book for teens and adults. I wasn't quite sure how it was going to end, but (without spoilers) I like the choices Lisa made.
