I struggled with rating this one and I think it's probably more of a 3 and a half for me but I'll round up to a 4.
Great world building here but there were definitely some flaws that bothered me a bit. Some of those may be a result of it being a first novel. I understand that there are numerous others coming in this series ... the good news, I'll likely give the 2nd a try to see if the flaws were addressed and if it goes to the next level. If it doesn't, I'm unlikely to continue.

The Bone Season has a great premise and is actually quite interesting. However, there was a LOT I didn't like about it, a LOT that didn't make sense to me, and that annoyed me no end.

I am so glad I found this book, the beginning of what looks to be a fascinating series. It's both a dystopian future and alternate history...I suppose it's the alternate history leading to a dystopian future.
Bleak, as most dystopian reads tend to be, but it shows how strong people can become under duress situations.

There were some interesting aspects to this fantasy tale - the idea of clairvoyants having all what amounts to superpowers, a prison for clairvoyants in what we know as Oxford, a race of beings that feed off of our auras. But the character at the center of the tale is just way too annoying to put up with and the whole thing turns into an unsatisfying and silly love story.
