The book begins with Sam Masur and Sadie green unexpectedly reuniting in a subway station. Sam and Sadie were good friends when they met in a children's hospital but they had a falling out. Sam ends up asking Sadie to make a video game with him. Sam's room mate Marx ends up being a producer on the game, Ichigo, and the three of them form a gaming company, Unfair games. Goodness, what a readable but ultimately uninteresting story about friends who make video games. The novel's beginning was lovely and layered, but as the story progressed, the characters became increasingly unlikeable in a tedious way. Only so many times can one's intent be misconstrued, and after a certain age, communication hangups become inexcusable. Touch grass, as the kids like to say. Rated 4.5 stars and rounded up to five. This story of friendship, loss, and love was captivating. As I read along, I couldn't wait to see what would happen in the next part. I appreciated the tenderness between the characters and the creativity of the story. It is not necessary to be a video game enthusiast in order to enjoy this book as I am not and I did! Do yourself a favor and fall into this story. I think you will be glad you did....

Sam Mazur and Sadie Green meet and bond over a Super Mario Brothers on the Super NES at the local children’s hospital – Sam is there recovering from a devastating car accident and Sadie is there with her sister, Alice. The two quickly become best friends, until Sam catches wind of the fact that Sadie was receiving community services hours for her bat mitzvah for spending time with Sam and he severs the friendship.
