This was a book club pick. I wanted to stop reading after 10-20 pages because the main protagonist, Wallace is so unlikable. But I persisted because it was added to our reading list by one of our members who usually finds some fun, quirky novels. This turned out to be one of them and once I got over the "hump" I sailed right on through. ...more

"It’s beautiful, even when it hurts."

I hesitate to say this one was cute. There were many cute moments in it and moments that melted my heart and made me swoon a bit. It's a bit of a love story - but it's a love story about finding life and finding love and finding. . .what life means.

This is the story of Wallace and the day he died. But it's so much more than that. It's about the reaper and the ferryman and about what happens after we're gone. There are so many tough topics tackled in this st

I read The House in the Cerulean Sea and I did enjoy it so I was eager to read his new one. Under the Whispering Door, for me, was way better. I had so much fun reading this book. Plenty of emotions all throughout the entire book.

The book deals with death and the "in between" time that there are tons of stories of. Wallace Price was a lawyer, a good lawyer, but his attitude and his life were basically all about work. He was brutal and uncaring for those around him. One day he finds himself look

Although this book isn't populated by teenagers - quite the contrary -, it feels like an adolescent story. I'm not quite sure why, perhaps the underdeveloped emotions & tedious navel-gazing. It's all very twee, anyway. Purportedly about grief & grieving, living life, and a love story, I mostly found it fairly flat & emotionless - all the right words were there but they mostly left me cold and thinking, "just get on with it".

It should have been interesting but it just didn't deliver. I found myse

This is a lovely story about death and life. I like afterlife fantasies and have enjoyed several. This one includes a tea shop and quirky characters, two tropes that I adore.

Sometimes dialogue is overdone and a few explanations drag. The romance is a bit overdone. But alas, it is lovely.
