“Belief has nothing to do with truth.”

This was a tough read, made even more difficult possibly by it being an audiobook. I liked the adventure and Jim's story but I found many parts really hard to stomach. I don't know the original story well so I didn't have a love or affection for Huck like I might have. The twist was something I didn't know ahead of time (not sure if it was in the original book) but I did find it good. ...more

The idea of Jim and other slaves faking ignorance was cool, but I wonder if the author was as well. This book read as a choppy YA book. James / Jim was no more developed than with Twain's book; he's still a caricature without depth. The author also goes to some silly places with him and Huck.

There are some dark scenes and satire, and it's worth reading, but it's not the book I envisioned. ...more

That’ll stay with me for some time! A fantastic version of Mark Twain’s Huck Finn tale, focusing on Jim, a slave, and his perseverance, love of family and patience. Heartbreaking and difficult to read at times.
