disappointed. I knew as soon as I hit the part where she describes just how beautiful and curvy she is - how she flirts with everyone, kisses any/every one and...just, it was my same complaint with House of Night series(Marked / Betrayed / Chosen / Untamed).
In order to be a kick butt vampire protector doesn't mean you have to be gorgeous and perfect. It also doesn't mean you have to throw yourself at every instructor, teacher, old/young man/boy within your sight!!! I lost count just how many boy ...more

I've come to the conclusion that maybe I just don't like vampire books. I can't think of one that I really loved, unless there were a lot of other paranormal creatures involved. I also think listening to this on audio didn't help, because I think the person reading it was too cutesy. The voice she did for Lissa sounded like a nine year old, and just didn't work for the things that were going on. I think I may have liked it a little better (but only maybe 3 stars) had I read it on my own. I don't

I love this book and can't wait to get the rest in this series. I also can't wait until they make this series into movies, which I think would be much better than the Twilight Saga. Rose is a Dhampir and her best friend Lissa is a Moroi princess. Lissa is a vampire with little fangs and huge magical talents. She can heal and she can use compulsion. Rose feels Lissa's emotions. They live at the Vampire Academy where Rose is taught to be a guardian. The Dhampir are part human and are trained to pr

I really thought that the high rating of this series meant that I would at least find it tolerable - but then I should have remembered that plenty of people recommended Twilight, and I thought it was terrible.
VA is better than Twilight, which is damning with faint praise, but it's all I've got! The main character, Rose, is simply not sympathetic in any way. I didn't like being in her head - hey, I was a teenaged girl, and I don't remember that level of obsessing about "hotness." She's also mean, ...more

There were lots of parts in the beginning where I was drawn in, but it slowed down leading to the middle. But once I hit about 60% of the way through, I couldn't put it down. I walked the dogs while reading, did laundry while reading, cooked dinner while eating, and read instead of sleeping so that I could read straight through and finish it. It was enthralling, and I loved the twists and turns, especially at the very end! The romances were surprisingly well-done, despite my initial dislike of D

Ehh this book is not for me. I hate books directed to young women that have violent stupid shallow girls competing with and fighting with each other over their attractiveness and their sex appeal to boys. Then add an emo cutting vampire to it and ugh. Also I immediately figured out the entire plot, so it wasn't even a suspenseful read. There were typos in the book too. I do not think the world building makes any sense either. The best part was that it was fast and silly.

Not your average vampire novel. I appreciated the effort to build in the living vs. undead vampire clans and Rose's role as a guardian. The entire system was pretty cool, though I'm not sure I got all of the specifics down on how they mate and function as a society. Still, I liked Rose and Lissa's bond, and the star crossed lover aspect to Rose's feelings for Dimitri. I'm curious to see where the series goes from here!

I usually don't read stories about vampires, and the few I did read before were classic vampire stories - but this one was different with the half-vampires and all, and I liked it a lot. It is written in an easy-to-read style, and I liked the main character from the very beginning. I'm glad that I gave it a chance, and now I want to read the rest of the series as well.
