I read and reviewed this book in December of 2008. It's that old. I am posting my complete and original (non-rewritten) review because when looking back I would like to think that my reviews now are quite a bit different and better then they were over a year ago. Since I wrote this I discoverd that Showalter did write a prequel to the series which was released in ebook format only. She did release that story in a omnibus a few days ago called Into The Dark which I can't wait to read.

Shelves: abandoned-series, with-reservations, zz-2016, paranormal, series, romance, adult, fantasy, demons, mythology

3.5 stars. Dark, dangerous romance between a sheltered woman and a possessed warrior. The hype of the series was more than my appreciation of the story. Though later stories might be better because they don't have to set everything up.

Abandoned series:
After 3 books. Just too dark and depressing to get to the HEA.

Likes:
* Ashlyn Darrow is haunted by the voices of previous conversations
* Very beauty and the beast

I am about 1/4 of the way through this book, and I have to agree with the other reviews I have glanced at that said that it was very dark and very fluffy...I like the dark, not so much the fluffy...it seems that the attraction between the H/H in these stories is going to be very close to 'love at first site'...the interaction between the hero and heroine are shallow at best.
