What Members Thought

I think this was bad timing for this book. Because I just couldn't seem to focus on it. Interesting premise and something I'd normally like, taking the journey with these women. Instead I just found myself bored and kept having to force myself to pick it up and read another few chapters.
This one I definitely will need to re-read someday and see if I like it more the 2nd time around. I wish I'd found more adventure and interest in a girl finding out all the secrets she did through all the years a ...more

Sorry, Kate Morton, but it was just too painful for me to enjoy.
I love the premise of the story, ie. the discovery of one's past. I love the setting up of the story, ie. a beloved granddaughter continuing her deceased grandmother's wish. I usually loved it when a story alternated between the present and the past but in this case, I knew the past was going to be painful but didn't really know how painful it was going to be until nearly 30% through and it was almost more than I could bear but I wa ...more

Fantastic storyline! There were parts of it that seemed to move slow, but once the mystery began to unfold I was hooked and felt like I just had to finish the novel. It is told from multiple points of view/time periods, and at first I found it very distracting. But, again, as the plot began to twist and turn, I saw that the POV's were necessary to unlock the secrets. I came up with different theories along the way, one of which was correct, but I hadn't been 100% sure until it was revealed. It w

This book was a joy to read. I loved the story and how the book was presented to the reader.
It was a pleasure to read the history of the different characters involved in Rose, Nell, Eliza and Cassandra. Each had their own tale to tell which intertwined and caused the effects of the present day.
I loved the element of mystery which was involved. I did figure out the outcome about halfway through but I did enjoy how it was developed and brought to light.

Very rarely do I give a book a five star rating. Most books are very good but once in awhile a book comes along that is truly great. The Forgotten Garden is that book. The story grabbed me and hung on. I'm still thinking about it and really didn't want it to end. I loved the how this author put so much into this book.
