I read this for my book club. A duel story covering Mirielle in France in the 1790s and Catherine in 1973. Both women become connected to the Montglane chess service which contains a mystic formula that will give people great power. I think I would have enjoyed the book more if I knew more about all the historical people in it. I also found the book a bit slow and it didn't seem like much happened until the end of the book. I was rather young when I found this book in my sister-in-law's bookshelf. Not even 20, I think. [Yes, I know, "young" is a relative idea. I'm 54 now. (or, 53 5/6)]

It's was slow at times, but really intricate with how the timelines weaved together and how these story lines all became intertwined. I'm interested in learning how this story continues.
