Too many words, but without much substance. It was repetitive and long-winded, I feel like I'm reading the same stories again and again (of the individual characters) only told in a different way every time they tell it to some other character. There were a lot of side stories that did nothing to advance the main plot, and the main plot itself has been simplified so much and so conveniently, I feel like there wasn't any point to the story at all.

I am not a fan of dystopian stories, but I do like vampire stories. I listened to this as an abridged version (14 hours). I liked it well enough that I will have to get the sequel. Chances are I will try to listen to that as well. Edward Herrmann did a great voice acting job. It was very creepy. However, I also thought the tale had shades of Stephen King. Below is my original review from 8 years ago. It still stands. It's even better the second time listening to this epic tale. It is fantastic and I cannot recommend it enough. I am really looking forward to seeing this as the television series that's coming out soon.
