What Members Thought

For those of you new to the Fantasy Genre, this book is a great place to start.
I found this story very entertaining. This short novel carried a big punch and had all the elements that keep me interested (original, creative, engaging, exciting, absorbing, whimsical, scary and hard to put down).
This book is a keeper and will definitely be a re-read in the future.

Horror has never been one I'm comfortable with. I do not watch horror movies and ever since reading Frankenstein in the middle of a stormy night sitting by my bedroom door with only the hallway light on (sleeping parentals), I have never truly enjoyed a horror novel. Whilst this book isn't really scary, there were some hair-raising moments. I think I was more confused than anything else. I think there's supposed to be a lot of reading between the lines and I wasn't prepared for that. I did enjoy

Another airport book. Picked it up on my way back from Iceland, in Copenhagen. I had seen it there on the way to Iceland and had played with the idea of buying it back then already, so I was happy to find it again.
I expected something entirely different, but I wasn't disappointed. Quite the opposite. This book was very... different (sorry for reusing the word ;)) - full of otherwordly things and slightly dark. Reminded me a little of Stephen King's style, but less gory and with less horror. Sort ...more

The story is a little confusing at first. It started off in the "real world", and then it does a flashback of the main character's childhood that sort of might be fantasy?
It makes me wonder if this whole book was a metaphor somehow or a euphemism because the child main character didn't understand what was going on.
It is still a good story (if it happened the way it was written). And from Gaiman interviews, it looks like the Hempstock family did make appearances in his other works...

Beautifully written! I either LOVE or really dislike Neil Gaiman's writing, there is not much of an in-between for me. This book hit the spot. The narration was wonderful, the story beautiful. Thank you, Mr. Gaiman.

To quote some of my friends, "The feels! The feels!"

This book is just far to creepy and strange for me to have enjoyed. It made me feel like I was witnessing Neil Gaiman's nightmare and I just wanted to wake up! Writing is beautiful...poetic. Just so creepy!
