I'm somewhat surprised that I have never reviewed this book, and this series, in general. I changed my rating from 5 stars to 4. I think this book series is always fun. It's perfect to get you a taste of some fantasy, some nice humor, it does a pretty good job with teaching some myths despite it adapting them to a modern world, and it's good for young kids to read. I guess for me... 5 stars= blew my mind or created a great emotional reaction. And while I liked the Percy Jackson series and this book, it's not something I am attached to or have a strong nostalgic memory of. Still, overall, I think Riordan still does a great job with creating a simple plot but with added elements very typical of the hero's journey as seen with older myths. Which I appreciate. I like stories that give similar vibes to their world building. It seems fitting.

Overall, I don't have much complaints about my rereading. Or in this case, listening since I read this as an audiobook this time around. I think it's actually my first time too. I felt like the narrator was ok, though at times it felt like he made some odd pauses or odd pronunciation of things. Though the odd pauses could potentially be because of the production/editing of the audio.

I felt like Percy Jackson as a character is really interesting, though, just like in Harry Potter, you wonder why people in charge of a camp like Half-Blood or a school like Hogwarts has an environment where you life is in danger from your fellow students/campers. Or at least, you can be maimed. Though, maybe with demigods, harming your fellow cousins isn't too big of a deal. Which the cousin thing... I don't think I realized it until now as an adult, but thinking about the romances....Well.... I guess it's better not to think too deeply on it. But hey, this is fantasy and in Greek mythology, romances are always messy and when it comes to cousins or even siblings... Yeah.......

Anyways, it was fun to get back into this world that Riordan created. I like the little quirks/modern takes on the Greek gods, monsters, etc. You can tell Riordan had fun writing this book and so it makes reading it really fun. ...more
