My reaction to these books is the same each time. "Why do I keep reading this annoying series?" And then I get a few chapters in and realize that Merit kicks ass and it's fun to watch her take center stage. Most times I even like Ethan though sometimes I want to smack him upside his big fat head!

*4.5 STARS*

Now that's what I'm talking about. This was more like the first few books when I really got into this series. The strategic moves, the tension between Ethan and Merit, the mystery behind what's going on in the house and outside of it.

I couldn't give this a full five stars on this one because I have to admit that Merit's whining got a bit on my nerves. I don't understand how she couldn't see Ethan's side of their argument and the choices that she made. I understood what she was saying

I was happy the book wasn't as angsty as the last couple and the bad guys are actually bad guys. This time around Merit is dealing with defecting from the GP (and Darius and the GP come across even worse this go around) and the disappearance of a couple of rogue vampires.
