*Harry Blackstone Copperfield Dresden, with his trademark long black leather duster jacket, blasting rod and staff, and pentacle necklace. Those, along with his general disheveled appearance.
description

★★★★½ I’m in love with a wizard. One cynical, irascible Harry Dresden, resident ‘anti-hero’ of Chicago, Illinois. People tried to tell me how wonderful he was, but I didn’t listen. He story is like reading a fantasy for the new millennium set in 1940’s film noir – but with brilliant moments of lush Technicol

★★★★½ Decided to “re-read” this via my ears, since other GRs friends were doing a “Buddy Read.” I love Harry so much, I couldn’t resist! However, I can see why some people say James Marsters’ voice is a little “wet.” I don’t know enough about the technology of the audiobook business, but seems like they could fix that. Some in our group didn’t like his frequent sighing; nevertheless, it didn’t bother me. (Maybe I sigh too much, too? LOL!) But, overall, I liked his narration; he sounded like Harr ...more

It has been nice to finally meet you, Harry. I’m sorry it has taken me twenty years to make your acquaintance. You are my kind of guy; a gentleman of the old school of manners, a good Wizard, and a nice person. I am looking forward to more of your stories.

Very good book! I loved Harry for his dry humor and matter of fact ways. It got him into a lot of trouble. Poor guy. The story was interesting. It was kind of creepy though also when we found out how everything all came together.

I thought this was an excellent start to a series that I'm now very interested in. The narrator was awesome. I thought he was perfect in his depiction of Harry.

I can't wait to continue with this series.

I found this book to be incredibly boring. The hero, Harry Dresden, is a piddling wizard who needs a faery spirit to help create all potions. He is more like a bungling idiot than a wizard. In every chapter of the book, someone or something is out to kill him. Harry didn't have a prayer of investigating the magical homicides for always trying to protect himself mentally and/or physically from all the attacks. It was beyond annoying to try to read this book and figure out the mystery with all the ...more

I have heard so many raving reviews for Dresden and almost as many totally opposite review. I wasn't sure what to expect going in. Especially after hearing that the series gets good after 3 to 6 books.....that's a little scary! I like a book to grab me right out of the gate.

I liked Harry; he isn't perfect by any stretch of the imagination and he is snarky, which I love. I didn't love the book, but I did enjoy it. It just didn't grab me. I will read more into the series.

I had a hard time getting into Harry Dresden. But once things started rolling, it was really good. Wizards in every day life but certainly handled with a new bent. Sort of reminiscent of the Garret PI books by Cook. Different in a good way. I'd say 3.5 stars and I'll check out the next certainly. ...more
