A million reviews on here persist that this collection of stories is "achingly beautiful" but I am genuinely struggling to get into it. For me, the writing seems clunky and over-the-top. The beginning of "Vision" commences well enough before MacLeod goes into long sentences comparing knife wounds with the way a story impacts him, then doesn't leave it there but carries on into another metaphor about squeezing together the banks of a river.
