The back of the ARC describes Firelight perfectly, "Mythical powers and irresistible passion ignite" to make Firelight one book that I was so enraptured with, I read it in one sitting. I've always been intrigued with the mythology of dragons, but I haven't read a book that made me really fall in love with them until I read Firelight. Sophie's characters and her world building hooked from page one and left me wishing her sequel was already out.

I've always been intrigued with the mythology of dragons, but I haven't read a book that made me really fall in love with them until I read Firelight. Sophie's characters and her world building hooked from page one and left me wishing her sequel was already out.

Firelight introduces a whole new character in the paranormal world- a Draki. Draki's are descendants of dragons who can shift between both dragon and human forms. While the pride closely guards their secret and where they live, they can easily blend in with humans and no one would know it.

Jacinda's rare gift of fire breathing makes her a unique Draki who's excepted to be with Cassian, the brooding, hot, Draki Prince whom she was once close to. Now that she's closely watched by her pride, and doesn't have a say in her future, she yearns for freedom. Wanting to get away, Jacinda goes against the pride's rule and flies during the day. This not only puts her in warms way when Draki hunters spot her, but she endangers the whole pride. She also wouldn't have met the Draki hunter Will, who finds Jacinda's Draki just as fascinating as Jacinda finds him. What's even more surprising, is that Will protects her from the other hunters.

Jacinda's already lost her father. In order to protect Jacinda and not lose her to the Draki world as well, Jacinda's mom flees from the pride with Jacinda and her sister 13 yr Tamra. Living amongst human's isn't easy for a Draki and living with a mom and sister who can't under Jacinda's Draki needs is even harder. Jacinda struggles with her new life, finds herself at a new school and face to face with the hot Draki hunter Will.

Sophie's talent for writing romance makes for some amazingly hot chemistry between Jacinda, Cassian and Will. Will and Jacinda have an undeniable attraction that left the pages of Firelight smoldering. It's not only one of danger as she's a Draki and he's a Hunter, but there's something more to it. I was really drawn to it. That isn't to say there's no attraction with Cassian, but Jacinda fights it. She doesn't want to be with someone who she thinks rule over her. She yearns for her freedom and wants to be loved for who she is, and not what she can do. Personally, I think there's more to Cassian than how Jacinda portrays him. I'm really looking forward to seeing more of them together in the sequel.

With it's hot chemistry, a captivating world, and an amazing dragon mythology, Firelight is one book I'll be reading over again. If you're looking for a fresh paranormal book to read, I highly recommend picking up Firelight it releases September 7th. ...more

I started reading Firelight today at about 2 PM in the afternoon and finished at about 6:30 PM. I just could not put the book down. I loved everything about it!

Jacinda decides to have a little fun one day, but things go terribly wrong. As they try to survive and get away, she meets Will. Now, I would keep going on their first meeting, but I feel I will be giving away something important.

Because of Jacinda's mistake, her mother decides that it would be safer for Jacinda and her sister, if she took them and ran away. They leave their home and attempt to start a new life someplace else. Of course she is not very happy with her mother’s decision. She loves being a draki and is upset with her mother for taking her away. That is until she meets Will again. Things slowly begin to change and as she falls in love with Will, things get even more complicated. Especially when she finds out Will feels the same way about her. He is the one person she should fear most, since he does hunt her kind, but for some reason he is the one she feels the most comfortable with.

Sophie is an amazing story teller. While reading Firelight, it was almost like I was there in the pages. There was never a boring moment. The way Jacinda and Will fall in love and all their emotions for each other, just felt so real. It was almost like their emotions were coming off the pages and into me. It was PERFECT! It was so easy to like the characters and even relate to some.

Firelight is an original story with a very beautiful intense love between two characters. It's unpredictable and a definite page turner. If you have not picked up a copy of Firelight by Sophie Jordan, I recommend you do. You will not be disappointed. I read it in about five hours. I was trapped inside the book and did not want to come out. Five Stars! ...more

The Pros: I was fascinated and couldn't put this book down. The story is rather intriguing. Yes, it's a paranormal romance, but I think it has a different edge to it. The writing is fluid and strong. First person, present tense is sometimes difficult for readers, but this is easy and flowing.

There was a point at the end when a plot twist was revealed and I was deliciously surprised. A few mysteries from earlier on clinked into place and I thought, "Well done!"

Have you ever read a book and thought- this would make a cool movie? All I could think about while reading Firelight was how I would love to see this on the big screen. Dragon shifters- WOW!

Sophie has taken the "forbidden romance storyline" to the next level. She has given us a new mythological creature, the Draki, a decedent from dragons that shape-shift into human form. I LOVED this book & devoured it the second I saw it. The story of the draki is refreshing in a world saturated with vampires, werewolves & faeries (don't get me wrong- I love those too!). I love Jacinda & Will together.

When I turned the last page I was so bummed it was over! The second is bound to be awesome as well- so curious what will happen with the Pride..and Will... I can't wait! ...more

I couldn't decide between 4 and 5 stars so I'm giving it 4.5 stars.

I had been looking forward to reading Firelight, it's one of the books I had on my list for a while and thought the concept of people descending from Dragons was interesting and different from everything else I had read. The book is pretty fast-paced and I got hooked into Jacinda's world from the very first page, it definitely did not disappoint.

I loved the new world of shapeshifters that Sophie Jordan created. I really felt lik I couldn't decide between 4 and 5 stars so I'm giving it 4.5 stars.

I loved the new world of shapeshifters that Sophie Jordan created. I really felt like I could connect with Jacinda and her feelings, I was very confused and angry with all the things she was going through so I thought Jacinda was a very brave and self sacrificing heroine cause I wouldn't have been able to put up with all that stuff. I couldn't stand Tamra, Jacinda's sister, she drove me crazy and I kept wanting to slap her for her selfishness and all the whining about her not ever getting anything she wanted or everything being about Jacinda.

Then comes Will, *sigh* we get to meet him from the very beginning and you already guess that he will play an important part in Jacinda's life. He's mysterious, handsome, a hunter of Drakis, and has a bad reputation in school so of course he's perfect for the main love interest in the story. Jacinda and Will make a perfect couple and they both had things to hide from each other, while reading you keep trying to guess what the big secret that Will is hiding and why he is able to track the Draki. Of course there's always complications that get in between, Jacinda has the pride looking for her and Will has a psycho cousin named Xander that loves to hunt and kill Draki.

I thought the story was well written and captivating, it had lots of romance and makeout scenes that will make you swoon plus enough action to keep you at the edge of your seat . The mythology was my favorite part of the story, the way the Draki live and how they survive, how they are in tune with nature and the earth. I loved it!! I had a little bit of a hard time picturing them in my mind though, that's one of my big issues. I just couldn't get a clear picture of how they looked, we get a lot of description about colors and skin but I don't know if they were human shaped or more like a dragon shape. The other thing was a cliffhanger ending, I've read so many books lately with cliffhanger endings and it's excruciating for the readers because now we have to wait so long to see what happens next. But overall it was definitely worth it and I'm sure the wait will be too, I can't wait for the sequel!!! ...more

From the moment I read the summary of this book I was sucked in and finally being able to read the book was just the same. Sophie Jordan has created a master piece that I can't wait to learn more about.

When the rest of her pride, and mother find out, Jacinda and her twin sister are taken away during the middle of the night to live amongst the humans. This is where I feel the books summary lacked a little, which is even better as a reader because I wasn't expecting the turn the story took.

Not only is Jacinda's mother unable manifest, or to change from her human form into her draki, but her twin sister was never able to. She is an outsider in her family and among her new human peers, fighting to keep the only part of herself that's ever made sense to her. And when she comes face to face with the hunter, Will, that could have killed her, Jacinda has to fight the feelings she feels toward him as well.

In my opinion, Sophie Jordan hit the mark with this story, her first foray into Young Adult, and can only go higher. Not only was the storyline intriguing and wonderfully thought out, but her descriptions really made Jacinda come to life. As a fire breather she has to not only fight her base instincts to manifest into her draki form, but to blow fire and smoke at the most inappropriate of times.

The connection between Jacinda and her hunter are what really bring this to life for me as well. He's the one thing that allows her to hold on to her draki and she doesn't know why. All of her instincts tell her to fight it and to stay away from him, but what happens when she can't anymore? And when it becomes apparent that the life she left behind with her pride is catching up with her, Jacinda will have some even more difficult decisions to make.

Even though it hasn't been that long since this book first came out, I already can't wait for the second book in the series to be released. Uncovering more about the draki and the beautiful relationship between Jacinda and Will is what awaits us! ...more

I finally managed to get a hold of Firelight from our public library. I’m so glad I did!

Firelight was definitely different than the other books I’ve been reading lately. No vampires, no werewolves… In this story, we have dragons! (Draki’s, to be exact.) The mythical world that Sophie Jordan created in this book was absolutely fascinating. The descriptions and the writing were wonderful.

I honestly think this is one book I should have actually read. I usually read a book first then listen on audio but audio has been easier to do lately. I really liked the story line and my heart BREAKS for Jucinda. The trials and tribulations that poor girl has gone and is going through are heart wrenching. I love the characters of Will and Cassian.

Firelight started out a little slow, but it does pick up and the story was great. I hope there is a sequel, because I want to know what happens next with Jacinda, Will, and even Cassian.
