Fabulous retelling of Cinderella with all the wit and charm one would expect from Eloisa James. I loved the little tweaks she gave to the traditional fairy tale elements--an earthy godmother, a not so ugly stepsister, and a not-quite-glass slipper. And of course there was more to the relationship between Kate and her handsome prince than just one evening together at the ball. A very cute and witty reselling of Cinderella, with sparkling dialogue and intelligent characters as is to be expected from Eloisa James. The novel is a fairy tale, not a historical romance, so my usual nitpicking of history habit is thwarted. Alas.

Kate and her godmother Henry are delightful characters. All of the women are quite fun, from Kate's stepsister Victoria to the other misunderstood spinster at the ball, Effie. Even the evil stepmother is well drawn in her outright evilness, and rival ...more

I loved this take on the tale of Cinderella!! Eloisa James does a wonderful job in making the characters feel real and you cannot help yourself but want to root for them! Also the secondary characters were very charming which is always a plus sometimes you get them where they might as well be as interesting as a piece of wallpaper!!

A Kiss at Midnight is a fantastic Cinderella tale with a feminist twist, a story that manages to be witty, poignant, and wise, and a hero and heroine who won my heart and my admiration. Another keeper by Eloisa James, one of my favorite authors.

This is a beautiful and unexpected take on the classic fairy tale. I have only recently discovered this author & genre and really like Eloisa James' characters. I wanted to finish this so badly I stayed up way too late & when I finally gave in to sleep, I made myself wake up early to finish this (& I'lll admit my son was late for school because of it) It was a very sweet story. ...more
