At times poignant, at times laugh-out-loud hilarious this is Eloisa James at her playful best. The voluptuous heroine, Olivia, with her penchant for limericks and bawdy jokes is the perfect foil for the serious-minded, yummy mathematician, Tarquin. I especially loved how Quin broke down Olivia's defenses about her body, helping her see how much he appreciated her curves. And how Olivia helped him come to terms with his past. Intertwined with the romance was a colorful cast of characters, includi

The Duke Is Mine has all the things I look for in an Eloisa James novel: the wit, the literary allusions, the lyrical moments, the love scene in an unexpected setting. Quin and Olivia’s tree house, which “had windows on all four sides open to the moonlight, which poured in like fairy dust turned silver,” may just be my favorite in a long list of such scenes.

2 stars – Historical Romance

Eloisa James is a fantastic author and her latest is a fine example of her skill. Quin and Olivia's chemistry was tangible and the witty dialogue had several LOL moments. There was even some (almost) tearjerker moments that had me marveling at what a wonderful book it was. I mean honestly, how often can you say "I laughed, I cried" about a book? My only gripe is a small one and that is a wish that Olivia's weight wasn't mentioned so often. I love curvy heroines but most of the comments were from

Olivia has been raised from birth to become a Duchess. Her father made a blood oath with the Duke of Canterwick while at Eton to marry their first born children. Olivia is a few minutes older then her twin sister Georgiana and due to that she is destined to marry a half wit by the name of Rupert. Georgiana despairs at not finding a husband because she was raised to become a Duchess just in case something happened to Olivia. All the men avoid her because she is everything that is perfect and men

This is the best Elisa James yet!
This is The Princess and The Pea set in Regency England. The "Princess" is the elder of twins and is committed to marrying a duke-to-be who is more than somewhat lacking mentally. Her younger sister is being considered as a prospective bride for yet another duke (don't you just love how eligible dukes litter the ground in these stories?) Anyway, the characters are great--thanks to James's daughter Anna we even get a Regency Justin Bieber.

I just couldn't get into this one. I'm setting it aside to try again later.

I'm glad I waited for this one to hit my local ubs. EJ is definitely getting more whimsy with this series. And I'm not sure I like that.
