Reread/listened to the audiobook May'2022:
I really enjoyed listening to the audiobook version, and I still loved this scandalously fantastic romance as much as I originally did! Big 5+ star favorite keeper!

Hoyt’s latest hero, Charming Mickey O’Conner will probably be one of my favourite heroes this year. As a river pirate, Mickey is as dangerous and as cunning as they come. With instincts as sharp as that of a wolf, it’s no wonder why Silence is unnerved by him.
Silence has such a big heart and Mickey uses this knowledge to his advantage. Using her love for his young daughter, Mary Darling, Mickey persuades the widowed Silence to live in his home to protect his ...more

This was the second time I tried this book. The first time, I lost my willingness to read romance, which could be related to this book, or just politics. But I felt ready for something bonkers this time. And while this is a totally bonkers plot, it's also such an emotional cheat. (No one cheats, the book's resolution is a cheat.)

Since reading the first book in this series I have wanted to read more about Silence. I was SO EXCITED to read this book! It starts with Charming Mickey taking his daughter from Silence and Silence coming to get Mary Darling back. Silence is forced to stay at Mickeys and their interactions get more and more steamy and emotional until they implode. The connection between Mickey and his enemy is interesting and for a while there I was worried all would not end well! This book has some good mystery

I've read SD,but I'm still not sure how to rate it. Unquestionably Elizbeth Hoyt is a gifted writer. Compelling characters, rich setting, intricate plot--she has it all. And nobody uses love scenes more effectively. The pages practically flame, but the scenes always serve a purpose other than increasing the sensuality level of the book. All of these elements that are characteristic of Hoyt are present in this book, but I just don't feel the love for Mickey that most other readers do.

A good book, definitely worth a read. Interesting retelling of Beauty and the Beast. Ending felt a tad too constructed. Why couldn't Mickey talk like he always had? Why couldn't he just be Mickey, instead of Michael? Either way, great read with an unexpected pairing.
