This has been one of my favorite books for almost 3 decades. Sharing it with my 4 and 6 year olds for the first time was pure magic.

Ok, now, I have always whined and complained over having to read this book twice as a kid, 7th and 9th I believe, and how boring it was and how much I hated it. I also remember taking all 3 volumes of Lord of the Rings with me on a weekend stay at a friend of my mother's, and not getting very far at all.

So, this year, I want to read Lord of the Rings. But I don't remember The Hobbit. So, fine, I will read it one final time.

I listened to this book on the audio narrated by Andy Serkis and I loved it so much!! He's an amazing narrator and his Gollum is the most amazing thing about the book. Now I can't read the rest of the LOTR books until I get the audio he narrates!

This is one of those stories I feel like I already know because of pop culture references, and I did read the graphic novel way back when, but it is a whole other experience going through the whole book with Andy Serkis. I loved it! ...more

One of the books listed in "1001 Children's Books" ... and like many books listed in this book, I disagree with the age category, 8 is too young to sit through a long book like this! It would be better listed in the 12+ category. ...more
