Considering that it's just about to turn 84 years old, this murder mystery set in the first-class compartment of Wagon-Lits' famous Orient Express is a surprisingly fun read. Christie's most famous character, Hercule Poirot, is set to the task of determining which of the passengers dunnit, every though everyone seems to have a rock solid alibi. And who was the woman with the red silk kimono?

This is a hard story to rate, for me. The mystery was well done and practically "unsolvable" but I found the solution to be almost like a magician pulling multiple rabbits out of a single hat. To say that the solution to this mystery was "jury-rigged" would be an understatement and also a bad pun.

After re-visiting a couple of my favorite Christie mysteries over the past couple of months, I've noticed that my favorite stories are those that are less formulaic. Don't get me wrong, I tend to like most novels and Christie is the only author that I go back to when I need cozy entertainment with a dash of murder, but some stories have that special something that makes them stand out from the crowd.
