This is one of the few times when I enjoyed the movie more than the book. But I think that would not be true if this story were a novel rather than a short story.
Brokeback Mountain is the story of Jack Twist and Ennis del Mar. Two cowboys who are employed to watch over a herd of sheep while grazing on a mountain. The two quickly grow close and become sexually involved. In the movie it felt as though the two were falling in love, but in the book I didn't get that.

Here's the big bad spoiler: it's a love story. It has cowboys. It has scenic mountains. It has pickup trucks and big empty spaces. What could be more all-American?

This play was as thin as paper. The dialogue was mostly taken from Annie Proulx's short story and Diana Ossana and Larry McMurtry's screenplay, and though I like the story and the movie, I'm not sure why a stage play seemed like a good idea. I've read good things about the actors in the original London production of the play, but without really strong performances, I'm afraid this show will fall apart unless audiences are more interested in the music than the story.

This was so sad. I've seen the movie, I knew what was going to happen, and it was still a gut punch at the end. (This is that rare case where the movie was better, though.)

After reading this and watching the movie, I really don't get the hype. It's a decent story, which wasn't converted very well into movie form, if you ask me. Also, people are acting like it's the first story/film to deal with something like this. Not even close.
