He belonged to the land and he could not live with any fullness until he felt the land under his feet and followed a plow in the springtime and bore a scythe in his hand at harvest.


I just don't know what to make of this little book. The nicest thing I can say is that it really made me crave a bowl of "good rice."

The characters have all the personality of a clod of dirt. I suppose one could say this is a story of rags to riches, to worse rags to better riches, and so on and so forth. Wang Lun

Seems simplistic today but I suppose her anti-communism stance was bold when this was written. And the scope of the story was a lovely segue into my current story, Angle of Repose.
