I didn't finish the book, but I finished reading it. At the rate I was going it would take 100 years to finish. Still, many of the images and scenes are stuck in my head and return at odd times. I may yet finish or even re-read this book. I'm sure it deserves the five stars everyone gives it, I just haven't found my way there yet.

I think this got better towards the end. It was a long read. Many characters many generations of the same family. There was a lot to keep track of throughout the story. Some themes and ideas weaved in and out of the story and that was a nice surprise. Great prose. Read out loud it sounds great!

A weighty and somewhat depressing book to plow through, but the writing (despite 2 or 3-page long meandering paragraphs) is amazing -- not to mention imaginitive and inventive. Would I read it again? No. Would I recommend it? Depends on the reader.
