Full disclosure: I am a life-long Tolkien geek. Mock me, and I'll cuss you out in Elvish. And then I'll breathe a bit of fire at you.
This is the prequel to The Lord of the Rings. I actually read LOTR first when I was 9 years old (back when dinosaurs walked the earth...) and it was rough going, so I highly recommend reading The Hobbit first. It explains a lot of things that are important to the trilogy. Also, unlike LOTR, this is a children's book. It's not just for children, by any means, but it ...more

Being an adult when I first read this book may have caused me to only give four stars. But I thoroughly enjoyed it! I embraced the fact that all these names I had heard of but did not k ow them and this book allowed me to! Parts of the story I couldn't put down however there were bits that I felt went on a bit and I found myself skim reading a bit too much. But I still enjoyed it. One of my favourite bits was the conversation with bilbo and smaug, which I found entertaining. Really want to see t ...more

După o perioadă de aproximativ 2-3 săptămâni în care am avut foarte mult de învățat pentru două examene importante, revin și doresc să vă spun câte ceva despre o carte frumoasă, interesantă, dar de care am tras mult ca să o termin, cauza fiind timpul liber aproape inexistent. Ei bine, această carte despre care vreau să vă vorbesc este scrisă de Tolkien și se numește Hobbitul (...)

I've tried to read this book before when I was younger and couldn't get past the first few long chapters. This time around they were the same challenge but once I got past them it was a great book. I enjoyed visiting middle earth and was actually very happy with this book. ...more
