My weekend was D.O.A....dead on arrival.
Odelia Grey is a single, middle-aged, plus-sized paralegal who learns that a close friend has committed suicide. Sophie London was a larger than life advocate for plus size women who had a secret life. Odelia is stunned by Sophie's death and begins investigating the twists and turns that led to the suicide.
Good grief! I don't know why it took me so long to start this series. I love Odelia! She is smart and funny with just enough snark. She is a true and lo ...more

Her friend dies and she discovers that her friend had a sordid secret. She had a son with a man who used women as his own personal chattel and was not adverse to getting them to kill for him or have sex with his clients or even selling them into slavery. She finds all this out and along the way discovers that her friend was murdered by someone they thought was her friend. She is injured and shot and falls in love. She also makes new friends.

I liked a few others I have read by this author, so thought I would try thins series.
It was a very different perspective from others I have read by her. In a few ways sort of in your face, and yet not. It was not the normal books set in LA, with the skinny blond, but her weight added an interesting layer.
Good story, and a good cozy mystery.

Odelia is an overweight, middle-aged paralegal sleuth in this first book in the series. As an food-addict, overweight person myself, I could easily relate to her struggles with her eating as comfort and hurt by meanness over her size. It was satisfying to see her successes in her life-her friends, her personality and her work. Zee's family were great characters, and Iris added lots of comic relief. Her stepfamily's cruelty and bullying were painful to read about, let alone have to have lived thr

It wasn't bad for a first mystery. I'm not completely enamored with the names the big girls call themselves but it was a while ago. Body positivity is great anyway. I did know who the killer was, and Odelia does the classic cozy mystery mistake of not looking at one person, no matter that they seem very knowledgeable and/or related to the crime committed. She has a clear eyed view of everyone else, just not this one person and that makes her look unintelligent. I hope this improves in the next b
