What Members Thought
I loved this book and I struggle with whether to rate it 4 or 5 stars. I listened to the book on audio and although the narrator for the most part was very good. I find her child voices for 4 year old Lulu extremely irritating , as well s the voice of 12 yr. old, Betsy. She did a great voice for the grandmother with a very authentic Greek accent. This was my first book by Kristin Hannah, but I look forward to reading many more.
I must say I don't know anything about military and I can honestly say I'm more of an anti-war person, a pacifist in my beliefs, and picking up this book knowing the subject matter, I didn't know what I was getting myself into.
But this is not a book about a war itself. This is a book about what war does to families left behind waiting their loved ones to return. Book about marriage tested to the limit by the wife's deployment.

I knew this was going to be a rough one, and sure enough, I spent the last half of this book in tears. What a lovely story about the hardships both a soldier and their families face. Thank you to all the soldiers out there who had sacrificed to keep our country free.
