Re-Read: 7/2015: As always, teared up with the end. Sigh...
Re-Read: 11/2014: Enjoyed it as much the second time around.
This book was simply phenomenal.
Not being into video games at all, I would have never thought that I was going to enjoy this book as much as I did. But while listening to it, I laughed, cried and made random YES! gestures every time Parzival (aka Wade) cleared a hurdle in the hunt.
The plot is a curious mix of past and future, a sort of Willie Wonka but with video games. It’s abo ...more

***RE-READ ON 12/28/16***
Listened to the audiobook with my husband during a road trip. I loved it just as much the second time around (his first time). I can't recommend this book enough.
My Rating: 5 stars
His Rating: 4 stars
***Original Review 04/20/15***
I loved everything about this book! I loved Wade and all his awesomeness. I loved all the subtle humor. I loved all the secondary characters. I loved that it was a fast paced and easy read without huge unnecessary and complicated plot twists. I ...more

What a ride....

I heard so many good things about this book and I hesitated a little bit to read it because I won't get the 80s pop-culture even though I grew during the 80s.
I am happy that I read this book because I really enjoyed the truth is that while reading it I heard the audiobook and I can't wait to watch the movie. The truth is while listening to the audiobook and reading the book I could see it in my mind. I love books when books make me fantasize the movie of the book.
Hopefully, soon we will have the ...more

3.5 stars. Imagine the collapse of the world and everyone spending most of their lives and money on a virtual universe called OASIS. There were times when the story dragged, or the author was more busy in dropping tidbits of 80's pop culture than progressing the story. But for the most part, Parzival's pursuit of the Anorak's hidden Halliday egg was a fun trip. This book would most appeal to people who grew up in the 80's, are gamers, love 80's pop culture or sci fi/fantasy lovers. I didn't love

I would love to rate this more a 3 3/4 stars than a full 4. Great story, but some literary tropes and a few too perfect parts took away from the story as a whole. I listened to the audio and wasn't overly impressed with the narration.

Another all-nighter :-D
And, yes, I'm crying. :-D
really liked it.
Though seppuku is not suicide in Japanese. It's the specific cut open belly ceremonial suicide. You don't perform it by jumping from a balcony.
And another thing. All the five of them are good guys. Just saying, because I was a bit worried. ...more
