This is the story of German occupation of Denmark and the rounding up of the Jews as seen from the eyes of a 10 year old Danish girl who is protecting her best friend and her family from the Nazis. It's a book that makes you stop and think how you would react in such circumstances. It's a quick read and well worth it.

Oh my gosh this book was AMAZING!! I love anything to do with the Holocust in general anyhow but this sucked me in instantly! It had me saying fussing out loud at certain parts. Of course I wish I could have know if the girls got back together. Love it! The best Lois Lowry book I've read.

Our protagonist is one of the families that helped Jewish Danes escape when the Nazi's finally cracked down, so she's not in as much danger. Her family helps her, including her younger sister who serves as the role model for innocence when talking to German soldiers. It's a gem of a book.
