What Members Thought
This is one of those old fashioned books where people get married out of duty and fall in love based on sideways glances. That in itself is tragic. This overdramatic and the end is ridiculous.
This wasn't awful, but I remember really enjoying Wharton, though I forget whether it was The House of Mirth, The Age of Innocence or both. Maybe I'll read those again and see if that helps me appreciate this more. ...more

I really enjoyed Ethan and felt sorry for him. His character faces a hard life, and as the reader you find yourself wishing and wanting an easier and more joyful life for him. It was a quick and enjoyable read, but her others are my favorites.
