*sigh* Is it wrong of me to want my own Terrible? Minus the whole enforcer for a drug lord occupation of course.

This was another great installment in the Downside Ghosts series. For me, the mark of a great series is one that makes me feel completely connected to the characters, and that is definitely the case here. Chess's boss is gay and apparently it is okay with the church because he's actually getting married and he's announcing it to her without asking for secrecy or anything!

I love how fallible she is, how insecure and self-hating and that she uses drugs to deal with it. It all feels realistic with her past and what she's doing now. Best in the series so far. Great action, interesting plot, and we get a deeper glimpse at why Chess is the way she is.

This book was intense!!! I still think the 2nd one was the best, but this one was pretty good. Lots of drama and intrigue. I've been listening to this one on audio because the narrator is REALLY GOOD. The characters have their own dialec and when I switch off to read the paper version, I still hear her in my head. I think listening to the books is better than reading them, it adds a whole new level to the story, but you have to pay attention. A lot happens on each page and you can't zone in and ...more

The case was interesting and I like that Chess is expanding/recognizing her growing circle of friends. She's still got a lot of issues and baggage, which on one hand is refreshing because there's no 'magical' cure for what she's been through and how she's dealt with it (ie. drug use). On the other hand, I feel that some of the miscommunication and assumptions that where used to create tension between her and Terrible went on a bit too much. I hope such plot devices aren't used so heavily in the ...more
