While the book is entertaining and enjoyable, the horrible sexism is unbelievable. Just because she acknowledges the sexism and is horrified by it, doesn't mean it's not sexist. It's still sexist if the character then goes ahead and tolerates it because that's just the way the culture is. By tolerate it, I mean let herself be dragged into it again and again, even though she isn't part of it and it hurts her. These men treat her like crap and she mostly lets them. They put her in horrible danger ...more

As I read more and more paranormal books, I am finding I am liking them more and more. I'm still amazed at myself! If you had spoken to me this time last year I would have said that I would never pick up a paranormal book if you paid me. Goodness, wouldn't I have missed out. This, the first book in the Mercy Thompson series, was a fantastic start. I immediately took to Mercy and her personality - intelligent but willing and happy to work in a garage, attractive but not in a bombshell kind of way ...more

An awesome series that I give an enthusiastic two thumbs up!!! Not only a great concept but also well written which isn't always the case with the genre.

Here I am 15 years after reading the first book starting my third reread of the series!! Time for a proper book by book review I suppose. I am going to be 100% honest here, this is my absolute favorite series. I never do rereads and I have done this one more than once. Patricia Briggs has created such a rich world full of all the elements you c

Interesting new character, female mechanic and walker (shifter) Mercy Thompson. Mercy has a good heart and was raised by werewolves.

Oh drat, I'm on book #7 of Mercy Thompson when I heard that it was chronologically linked with the Alpha & Omega series (starting with Cry Wolf). So now I have to catch up with the Alpha & Omega books. If you want to do it right from the beginning, here's the reading order. (view spoiler)

This was fun. Mercy is a complicated person...she'll go to church, bake cookies, repair a car's engine and then shoot some bad guys. Oh yeah, and she also happens to be able to turn into a coyote.
This is , as I often say about pure pleausure reads, the literary equivalent of eating potato chips or buttered popcorn. It's meant to be fun and it sure is hard to stop once you get started. Briggs is a talented writer. Her dialogue is snappy and occasionally hilarious.
She also writes vivid, believabl

It was a good book. Almost, but not quite, reminded me a bit of the Stephanie Plum series, but with vampires and werewolves. I liked it enough to request the 2nd book from the library.
