I enjoyed reading this book. It was quite fun. I would have given it a 5 star, but I hate Hugo turned Jean Valjean into such a pathetic character at the end. I feel like he ending doesn't match with the Sacrificial man he is throughout the novel. Other than the last fifth of the book, it was one of my favorite books to read.

What was up with the large sections of philosophical/historical monologue that had nothing to do with the plot? When the book got back to the plot, it was great, but I often found myself skimming through the other parts.
Had to read this in H.S. was not a fan! Maybe now that I'm not a teen-ager maybe I would like it?
