What Members Thought
I'm really struggling with rating this book ... I really liked it in some respects but it was just good in others. I'm going with 4 but I struggled. She is a great writer and the story as a whole was successful. But, there felt like some kind of disconnect in the writing for me. I'd feel that disconnection come in and out throughout the reading which made the overall reading experience less successful. I'm not sure how to adequately express my feelings about it. Maybe 3 stars...looking forward to discussing at book club.
I'm going to be honest here. When I read this years ago, I was not as taken with it as I am now. This book haunted me. I read it, I liked it; I finished it; I put it on a shelf, but it called to me. Months later, scenes would replay themselves in my mind. This is the kind of book that rewards a reader for taking the time to sit with it and reflect on it.
