Originally read this tale of a young wizard struggling with his own power when I was twelve or so, loved it, and just re-read it for Sword & Laser.
It is very traditional (so much so that most of the women we see fall only into witch or seductress roles, something Le Guin later commented on and tried to rectify with later books in the series.) A little underwhelming. It is thoughtfully done so I could see how it would have been better in the '60s when it was written. Today, it felt a little dated.
