I can't believe I read BOTH Sword & Laser picks this month, and this one I listened to. I wish I had read the print, only because the narrator has that particular British storytelling voice that makes me want to nap immediately - a snowy day, roaring fire, cozy blanket voice. I had a hard time focusing on the story itself. This to me is somehow connected to my ideas that I don't particularly care for fantasy, and I think the rating reflects that too - an okay book, just not really my thing. Some ...more

Delightful. L adore Lila and desperately wish for her to find a ship. Kell is a lovable lug and the world of magic and the multiple Londons captivated me. Well done!

Adventure dealing with the neat idea of four parallel Londons, each in a world with a different level of magic than the other worlds, and those who can move between them. While it never did anything particularly wrong (except maybe (view spoiler), I just didn't love any aspect of it either. ...more

I found it an interesting read.

Once upon a time there were four Londons, Black London, Grey London, White London and Red London and people could travel between then, then Black London imploded and in order to stop the others following the routes between were restricted. Kell is one of the people who can travel between, he knows only one other who can, Holland who works for White London. Kell works for Red London, where magic is revered and where he is half-slave, half-family to the ruling family

Great idea and some great visuals! I can never remember the name of this book, though - I keep calling it "the red, grey, black, and white book." I wasn't totally on board with some of the way the resolution played out, but it's a quick and fun read.

Love the cover.
