What Members Thought

This was the April read for the Sword and Laser book club, and I actually listened to it in the same month! I even voted for this book during the March Madness thing they had going. I mean, it sounds funny, based on the title.

I have heard nothing but raves about this book FOREVER. I really enjoyed it, but somehow it's not evoking a 5-star rating in my heart. In Marie Kondo-speak, it brings me a little joy, but not great joy. The thought that came to me as I read this is that Bob's "evolution" and actions are equivalent to a video game, where one starts with limited resources, then has some "official" goals, some "my personal passions within the universe", and to a lesser extent, some yak shaving. A fun and entertaining story that reminds me of The Martian in it's mix of sarcasm and science. I have been bogged down in Fall, or Dodge in Hell, which has a similar underlying theme, and this was so much more readable. I'm off to get the second in the series so I can keep going.
