I have been reading a lot of sci fi lately and have wandered over to the fantasy genre on occasion. This I found in one of those wanderings and I am very glad I did. It is a fun combination of fantasy, mystery, and humour. This was my "bus book" and I became so engrossed in the story that I missed my stop on a couple of occasions. (Fortunately they were on the trip home, so it wasn't too awful for me to walk those few extra blocks to my apartment.)

This book is a combination of murder-mystery noir and fantasy, set in an impressively detailed alternate modernity where "the fey" -- elves, druids, fairies, etc -- share the world with humankind. My first elf punk book. Was OK. Did not create an urge to read more elf punk. Just not my cup of tea.

I really liked the fairy-elf-magic lore and how it was woven into the human world.

There are a lot of interesting characters, both human and fey, and I hope to learn more about them in future books. So far I have a soft spot fo

While Connor Grey, Stinkwort, and Meryl, and the world they live in were interesting, the story was a bit slow for me. There were plenty of times where I wished it would pick up, but it dragged quite a bit.

I would give the next book a chance, but we'll see.
