I'm not sure what I expected, but this wasn't it. These are stories bemoaning destruction while imagining all the ways we could be destroyed in an alien environment.

(3.5) Classic sci-fi work, enjoyable.

Interesting look at what the future of space exploration and technology looked like in the 50s. I didn't enjoy the Martian telepathy bullhonky in the earlier chapters.

Two highlights for me. First was the story about the entire black population of the US forming an underground effort to build and launch rockets to flee to Mars for a better life. Except we never hear from them again, so I actually fear that they were (mis)lead to their death, in which case this

I can't put my finger on why, but I really enjoyed this book. Maybe it's because it forced my brain to think differently than the usual book I read, or the topic itself was worth pondering over, but I found myself thinking about this book when I wasn't reading it and wanting to get back to reading it as soon as I could.
