This book is delightful... one blurb says 1984 meets Umbrella Academy but I say it's more Ministry of Magic than 1984, more whimsy than oppressive. This isn't being marketed as YA (the MC is 40) but reads like YA, and a feel-good read for acceptance for all beings, whether they are lgbtq+, magical, or cranky.

Safe homes for traumatized kids to heal
Dorky, drab Englishmen who learn to stand up and say "Good DAY, sir!"
Sweet, understated romance
Soft-spoken, intelligent, kind men with quiet smiles
Small children threatening terrible bodily harm
Ice cream ...more
