Well. This was a longer version of the novellas where things Murderbot learned earlier (storing earlier versions in places others can't access, what not to tell humans, what to prioritize, how to get around corporate regulations, etc.) come into play. I can't say I enjoyed it exactly. But maybe I can be a Tournament of Books completist.

Murderbot has to deal with people again and this time it's family of people that they want to keep alive that are involved, as well as ART who technically kidnaps them. It also involves privacy and personality and spreading the art of overriding governor modules which sounds like it will have repercussions. It also features alien technology and some people who may or may not be fully in conrtol of themselves.

The snark levels are off the charts. Which is good because it counters the absolute heart-breaking tear-jerking beauty of everything.

Listened to this on Audible when we were together in the car driving long distances, so it took a long time, with big gaps between sessions. Jumping back in and getting into context was pretty easy, and the Audible reader (who has done all the books so far, I believe) is fantastic. Note for drivers who try this... it's hard to follow some the action and drive safely if there's a lot going on traffic-and-navigation wise, so pick your moments. We got the most listening done when driving familiar r

I love Murderbot. The snark, the sarcasm, it's right up my alley. I loved seeing old friends return in this one. Can't wait to see what happens next!

Solid consistent dose of Murderbot. No more no less. Like street food, better than it should be, something you crave. Plus it's funny.
