What Members Thought

I've always been an advocate of reading the book first, but when the movie came out in 1987, I was six and had no idea it was based on a book (and shame on my Dad for not finding it and reading it to me). I loved the movie, and my familiarity with it (having watched it dozens of times) did not dampen my love for the book one bit.
The movie is one of the most faithful adaptations of a book I have ever read. Most of it is lifted directly from the book, which is wonderful, and I wish could be said ...more

This story takes place in Florin, that beautiful land from where comes the original author of the book, Simon Morgenstern, since the book by Goldman is nothing more than an abridged version; and where still lives family of the author Stephen King, who is in charge of abridging the next volume, Buttercup's Baby.
Did you believe it? Yeah, it's all a lie. (Does anybody really know a country named Florin?) But that is why this book is exceptional.

January 2011 Review:
I've watched The Princess Bride movie many times a year for, quite frankly, as long as I can remember. It's one of those movies I grew up loving and grew fonder of as the years went by. It's so full of quotes, things I use so often even in daily life - as recent as dropping my brother off at his girlfriends (he's 16 and will never read this so I can tell you all) and yelling out, "Have fun storming the castle!" as he made his way up the driveway he refused to have me drive in ...more

I found this quite enjoyable, especially since I've seen the movie a gazillion times and only recently learned there was a book. Be forewarned, there's lots of commentary and the author frequently breaks into the story to make a point about something, and endless lessons on Florinese history. This is a good read for a rainy Sunday when you just want to get lost in the story - or in this case, the story within the story.

I'm rereading this. I love this book intensely.
