I thoroughly enjoyed the action parts and the magic system, even tho it was rather derivative (reminded me too much of ATLA). The biggest flaw would be how the MC forgave her jerk of a husband wayyy too easily. Plus there are some of the long-winded info dump in the earlier chapters which could be better written. Wonder if there will be a sequel since clearly the story is not over yet.

Well, I’m several months late for this book and that’s because it’s a lot more interesting than I expected.

I thought it was a well executed Japanese flavored fantasy story and I was all set to quickly read it before book club when things took a turn. (view spoiler) Suddently the stakes were much higher but also I needed a break. So I heard some of what would happen at the club but that didn’t make me want to rush to finish. I finally did and I’m glad.

I feel like this could have used an editor to cut like a third out, but overall I really enjoyed it. A few twists surprised me, and it very much left room for a sequel. I cried a few times, and I hated a lot of the characters, but the character arcs were amazing and I would recommend.
