What Members Thought

To me, this book was an inverted version of Orson Scott Card's Ender's Game. Ender is a child sent up to space, kept in the dark, to fight without his knowledge or consent, aliens that are a great distance away. John Perry is a senior citizen that signs up to fight and is told exactly who, where and what his enemies are, and fights them in close-range skirmishes. Both books are great sci-fi reading, although I do like Ender's Game a bit more than Old Man's War.

I can't say enough about how good this book is, fast paced, well written and just an overall good book. Take an afternoon and read this book.

Writing isn't anything to shout about, and the setup takes a while. Otherwise, an above-average military SF novel. Doesn't come close to matching Haldeman's The Forever War.

Re-reading for the nth time. Excellent as always.

Old Man's War is a good adventure war story. My only complaint is the one inch tall intelligent aliens.
