3.5 but rounding up. I think if I read this rather that listened to it my rating would be a more solid 4.
This is a 4.5 for me, really. Grady Hendrix speaks my love language, which is apparently campy, suburban horror. Horrorstor, My Best Friend's Exorcism, and now The Southern Book Club's Guide to Slaying Vampires - - they all center on places and situations and characters so familiar in their mundane madness, and the pop culture nostalgia never fails to make me happy. The gaslighting in this novel made me want to punch things (men, let's be real) and there were, as usual, some truly gross scenes.

This may not be everybody’s cup of tea but I devoured this story. You have to have a twisted personality a little bit, I think. There’s some gore and things out of the ordinary that you don’t typically read about so not everyone will love it as much as I did. I don’t want to say much more because I don’t want to give anything away.
3.5 stars rounded up. This book was entertaining but really took a disturbing and unexpected tone for me. It didn’t make me want to stop reading but left me unsettled.
