Red Rising is a captivating read. Initially, it felt like it had the perfect mix of everything, but then there was a moment that left me a bit puzzled. Some elements seemed like they could've gone in a different direction, making more sense for the story's environment. However, I was invested in the narrative and never felt bored. Overall, I'd give it a solid 4

The fast way to describe this?
Think of Panem mixed with some SciFi.
I really enjoyed this book. I got sucked into the story pretty quickly. The characters were believable. There were good ones, bad ones, and most importantly - those in between. There is not only black and white in this one. There's also quite some grey territory. That is what I liked best. Characters change, people deceive others, and thereby also you. It was not predictable, and that is really something I miss in a lot of book ...more

4.5 stars. It's like Camp Half-Blood meets Battle Royale. Brutal, exciting and a real page-turner. Not at all what I expected, but I think I liked it more because of it! Fuller review to come.
5 stars. On second reading, I loved it so much more. The characters really go through the ringer and it was especially brutal for me the second time around. I love these babies and this world so much. ...more

Darrow slaving in the mind *yawns*
He gets in trouble *not even noticing, skimming*
God, this book is boring.
p 100. If this wasn't a joint review thing I would give up! This is such a DNF. Who cares about these idiots?!
Oh and how come after 100 of years the reds do not know that peeps live in Mars. I would think someone somewhere would have spilled the beans in mistake.
p.150 *stops skimming*
This might be getting somewhere finally
p.200 *stops skimming for real and starts reading*

Sixteen-year-old Darrow loves his young wife, Eo. There’s nothing he won’t do for her, and all he wants is to make a living so that they can be a family. Although Darrow is a “Red,” the lowest caste in a bleak, color-coded society, he works hard in the tunnels of Mars, helping to terraform the planet for future generations.
But when Eo and Darrow are found to have visited a beautiful but off-limits part of Mars, they get into serious trouble with th ...more

Pretty good but nothing stellar. Basically Hunger Games. I wasn't awed by the writing but it told a good story with some interesting characters.

Well this was an interesting read! This novel, first of a trilogy, was penned by a new author and was quite well written. That said, this read was at times very frustrating but in the next page, brilliant! This book was at times compared to other series that have recently been written, Hunger Games, Enders but since I have not read those series I can only state my own thoughts. This book is set in the future where the tale begins on Mars. This being the first book, the first part of the novel is

Red Rising is a page turner, a ripping yarn. Devoured in just three days! It had me at hello.
It's not entirely original, and it's filled with cliche, but it oozes a charisma that doesn't let go bringing the age of heroes to the stars.
I see influences like The Hunger Games, Total Recall, Lord of the Flies, and Dune. It does enough however to carve out its own identify.
Is it another dystopian teen hero story? Yes! But it's worth your time. ...more
