I was excited to read this b/c I enjoyed Water for Elephants so much. But I can't give it more than 3 stars. It took an awful long time to get off the ground; it finally got interesting about a third of the way in. Then I enjoyed watching this shallow, privileged young woman grow up. It was also an insight into the lives and attitudes of wealthy American at the time of the Second World War (a bit Downton Abbey-ish). I wish the sex scene had not been so explicit, but I've certainly read worse.
