Reading the first page, I thought Serafina was a cat. I was delightfully surprised to learn on page 2 that she was, in fact, human, although there is something mysterious about her. Serafina and the Black Cloak was good but not nearly as good as I was expecting. After seeing the book trailer I was expecting a much more gothic and atmospheric novel but I was sorely disappointed. It's not that I didn't like the book but I felt that it didn't live up to all the hype surrounding it. The cover art is certainly beautiful and lends itself to a gothic and eerie setting but the parts that were somewhat scary were more gore than goth. Also, the book was a bit disjointed starting off
