A fine second novel by Ernest Cline. The premise had me fearful that this was a literary rehash of The Last Starfighter but the story got stronger as it steamrolled to the end with a surprising turn of events.
There is a lot to like about this book - from the protagonist (Zack Lightman), nerdy gamer with anger issues, his dorky friends, and his supportive widowed mother and hobby shop mentor. To talk about other characters would spoil the story but there are plenty of others to enjoy as the tale ...more

Well, that was disappointing after the epic awesomeness of Ready Player One.
Complaint #1: He laid it all on so thick in the beginning that the "surprise" "twists" could all be seen coming from a mile away. After the first few chapters I could have told you basically the whole plot, and saved myself reading it.
Complaint #2: Because of #1, I never got invested in the story. I couldn't buy into Zack's surprise or incredulousness.
Complaint #3: The timeline. It all takes place in one day. Including ...more

Ugh, this one was a big disappointment. LOVED Ready Player One so was excited to finally have time to get to Armada. Such a let down! It felt derivative and lacked the charm of RPO.
Entertaining enough. But so many problems.
the ending was a complete and total let down.
